Antiques

Antiques are usually objects which show some degree of craftsmanship, or a certain attention to design such as a desk or the early automobile. In a consumer society, an antique is above all an object whose atypical construction and age give it a market value superior to similar objects of recent manufacture. Just take one look at the recent popularity of the PBS show Antiques Road show, and you'll see that antiques are a big business. There is something about the concept that something tucked away in your grandma's attic could be dusted off, polished up, and be auctioned off for hundreds or even thousands of dollars, that resonates with the treasure hunter inside all of us. Antiques shops have been around for ages, but nowadays the market place has changed from roadside establishments to online venues like eBay or even Craigslist. These are great places to pick up undiscovered gems. To the untrained eye, a priceless antique may just be clutter taking up space in a garage or storage unit. Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
